Marijuana is originally a slang Mexican term for the plant,
popularized in the 1920's.
Throughout history it has popularly been called 'canabis' or variant there of, you'll find that across many different languges the plant is referred to with the syllables canna- kanna- or something similar used.
Evidence suggests that Cannabis / Marijuana / Pot / Weed / Ganja / Grass has played important role in human life for millenia.Carl Sagan, the popular astronomer known for among other things, his PBS series "Cosmos" was fond of partaking in the Marijuana Smoke.
